The International Museum Day at the museums of Aigai and Veria
This year in Aigai, on Wednesday 18 May, we had the chance to celebrate the International Museum Day along with refugees from a country where Alexander the Great passed from, Syria. In parallel, we also organised events for the celebration at the Archaeological and the Byzantine Museum of Veria.
The event organised for the refugees gave us the chance to talk with the refugees of the camp of Agia Varvara and to learn their stories and adventures that lead them to Veria. Iskender, Alexander the Great, was laready known to those who came from Syria. Language barriers were overcome with the help of translators and body language. From this feast, we would like to remember the white pigeon, a peace symbol that children offered to us, and their affirmation that "Syria will become again a peaceful and beautiful country, as it used to be".
At the Archaeological Museum of Veria , on Friday 20 May we celebrated both International Museum Day and the Long Night of Museums (21/5, European Night of Museums), with the event "Pervigilium Veneris - Venus Vigil", a special tour at the exhibition through the spectre of love, and a music performance by the vocal ensemble Echo Verois.
At the Byzantine Museum of Veria, on Monday 16 May a special educational programme for the byzantine walls enhanced our ongoing collaboration with the Directorate of Elementry Education of Imathia.
