International Museums Day, 18th of May: events in Aigai and Veria

The Ephorate of Antiquities of Imathia participates to the celebrations of the International Museums Day with events at the Byzantine Museum of Veria (Monday 16 May), the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Wednesday 18 May) and the Archaeological Museum of Veria (Friday 20 May).

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has established the 18th of May as International Museum Day. On that day, entrance is free to all museums. Each year, a specific topic enhances the role of museums in contemporary societies through the events organised internationally for the celebrations. This year, ICOM has selected the topic "Museums and cultural landscapes".

The Ephorate of Antiquities of Imathia participates to the celebrations of the International Museums Day with events at the Byzantine Museum of Veria (Monday 16 May), the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Wednesday 18 May) and the Archaeological Museum of Veria (Friday 20 May).

The Byzantine Museum of Veria on Monday 16 May realises the educational programme "Byzantine walls and traditional houses at the Museum's courtyard" with the school group of the 12th Nursery School of Veria, in the context of an ongoing collaboration of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Imathia and the Directorate of Elementary Education of Imathia.

The Museum of Royal Tombs of Aigai will host on Wednesday 18 May a group of refugees which temporarily reside at the camp of Agia Varvara of Veria, with guiding at the exhibition.

The Archaeological Museum of Veria invites us on Friday 20 May at 21:00 at an event on Love in ancient Greece, entitled "Pervigilium Veneris - Venus night wakefulness"
